headlight vacuum question

Hello toall,Ever since I bought my'75 coupe last year one headlight was slower to raise and lower than the other.I figured after reading countless 'how to' postsincluding corvette101 and everthing else I could get my hands on that I might be able to replace the acutator seal in the slow one andfix the problem.I fixed it alright! Now when I turn on the lights, theunrepaired headlight moves slowly up, then moves down a bit and then finally goes up as it should. It also retracts much slower than the headlight with the replaced actuator seal. I'm sure mostof youwill sayreplace the other seal dummy! but it seems to hold vacuum as it should. I'm a little hesitant because now the headlight with the replaced seal now moves up so fast that it clunks when it moves to the locked-up position. I counted the turns when I took off the clevis from the actuator rod and screwed it back on with the same number of turns. All other bearings, springs bushings, etc are free from defect. Any suggestions, comments will be greatly appreciated...

Hi and welcome to the forum. Sounds like you need to re seal the slow one, yes it's holding vacuum but it may be leaking a little and that's why its a little slower. PG.

Hey PG, Thanks for your comment. I will change out the other actuator seal. I became a little gun-shy about replacing the other one after the one I repairedcame up so fast and made that clunking sound when extended up. I may try to adjust the actuator screw in or out to see if iteliminates the sound.Kudos.

Welcome to CF! :)
I agree with pg, replace the seal on the slow one, and lube all moving parts. ;)
Let us know of your results.

Thanks PG and C3 for your help on my first (old) post. Your suggestions worked and my headlights are working like new. Iwasn't able to getback to thank you both for your help because by the time I got around to repairing the problem, I forgot my password. It's tough getting older and losing your mind! Hope to download some pics soon.
