Default Hello There!!

I orginally joined this forum because I am looking for info on how to change the Bose Gold radio and speakers in my 1990 Vette, but after reading some of the posts, I see there is a lot of info to be had here. This is my fourth Corvette, and by second C-4, and I love reading about and working on my car.

Default Been a while, I know. But trying to help others

This post is to help 90 to 93 owners
. I just completely gutted the radio from my 90, the head unit does nothing but control the radio under the glove box. Once you remove the hush panel, it's way in there. I just pulled wires out of the way and took 1 nut off and let it hang down. The antenna wire will reach to the new unit with a short adapter (no GM antennas fit after market radios) the wire kit you buy will most likely come with one. I used my old kit from my 98 blazer. Don't be fooled, all GM harnesses are the same. Just this one is located in a stupid place, and 94 to 96 is worse. You have to extend the black, yellow, red and blue with white stripe to the radio. The blue striped one is for the power antenna. You will have to locate a dash kit, meta is a good one, comes with both single and double din. You got to either run 4 speaker wires from behind the dash to your new speakers, or run RCA wires for the amplifier. You can use the stock bose speakers if they are good still, just disconnect the stock amplifier. As for the exhaust noise? I took the storage lids out and put an 8x8" by 10.5" box in the compartment and covered the whole rear compartment with a 32x26" press board and covered in the car color vinal wrap. Stuck a 5 channel amp with an 8" kicker L7. No exhaust res at all. You will throw DIC code 51 and 53 from the engine management but you can't tell unless you pull the codes, it's not going to turn the engine or ABS light on..........unless you wack the lateral accelerometer in the dash under the HVAC control and above the radio. Good luck finding a good ground spot for the amp if you choose that route. That about sums it up.

I did my whole system including the amp and sub for under $250 and it's a Sony head unit and all kicker speakers and amp.
