Looking to buy a '81 vette for 5500$, good/bad buy?
Hey guys, Im looking to by a 81 vette for 5500$. The condition of it is fair. The interior looks old butnothings missing and theresno tears. Theres no dents in the body except a few knicks here and there. The pant is decent but is coming to an end since the guy slaped on a maaco paint job. Everything works, p-windows, ac, head lights. Breaks feel spongy. Tires good shape. T tops dont leak. Been sitting for two years but starts right up with no problems. 80k miles.
After talking to the guy selling it heres his story. Heowns a bunch of car dealerships and drove the vette to pick up his truck at a Midas shop which his friend runs and just left it there.A week later put up a for sale sign. He was firm on selling it for 6000$ but ppl kept on giving him the run around. Then the vette made its way to the back of the shop. Ive been driving past the shop for about a year and noticed it was still there in the back. I stoped in and asked if it was for sale still. the guy said yeah and called his friend up to talk and make a deal. 5500$ no ifs ands or buts. He knows its only going to go up in vaule he said. What do you guys think? 5500$ for a 81 vette in the condition its in. good deal? |

Seems high, but without pics or other details, can't really say.
Get someone to pull the trigger on a COLD motor. Watch the exhaust. With your piggies on the brake, put it into reverse, back to neutral, then to forward. Feel for a clunk, to check for u-joint play. That's a good indicator of how hard it's been driven. C3 mod might have tips about what to look for in an '81 - w'strippin', door panel interiors, etc., ... |
