New Owner from Texas
 

I bought my first vette recently for $300.00. I may have paid too much. It is what you call a project car. It is a 1971 454 coupe that was loaded.
When I found it, it had a tree growing in between the frame and the engine and I had to dig a hole under the car to cut the tree so we could move it. Of course the brakes were frozen and the tranny was stuck in park and the tires flat. It took several hours of prep to get it free from it confines with mosquitos big enough to leave track marks in your arms trying to carry us off. Once it was ready it took three hours to load because both front wheels went toe out due to rusted out tie rod sleeves.
The car looked really sad sitting there on the trailer with the remains of a tree still sticking up through it. It is a great example of why some folks should not be allowed to own a vette. On the bright side, If I ever get the car running and restored, no one will ever have worse looking before pics.
The '71 used to sit next to a '63 split window coupe that was in about the same shape. But it was rescued and totally rebuilt. Also in the same back yard was and '80 model coupe and a '88 convertible.
I may need my head examined for buying this one.

Welcome! I think an earlyC3 in any condition is well worth the investment. Parts are becoming very scarce so even if you decide to part out what you have you certainly won't lose your $300
investment!
I spend a good part of the day at Corvette Carlisle searching for a pair of '71 wiper blades w/ the copper tubes for a friend. I think we hit at least 50 used parts vendors there and still came up empty handed.
Would like to see pictures before removal if you have em!

Here is a picture of the 'vette the way I first saw it about 5 months ago. Sad thing for the 'vette is it sat next to an empty garage.

Heck of a deal.Most people pay a few Gs for a project car.

You might try www.pacvette.com , they are a Vette wrecking yard. I have had good luck finding parts there. ;)
