remove key for 10 seconds and column lock

Just got a 2002 convertible with a 6 speed. Had2 messages in the DIC saying something about column lock and to remove key for 10 seconds. When the clutch was let out the engine would die. Had the car towed to the dealer. They said they had to order a part but were not clear about what it was. I asked the dealer if this problem was a recall and they said no. I see there is a recall that souds similar to this. Has anyone had this fixed for free if the car was out of warrantyand what did the dealer do. Thanks

I think the column lock issue was a recall but I could be wrong.

i had the same thing happen on my 1999 C5 six speed four years ago. It was fixed by the dealer free of charge, so i'm assuming it was a recall. It actually gave a warning once about column lock, and a few days later it did it again, just as you described though, and wouldn't run.
