Restoring my 68

I'm in the middle of restoring my 68 vette, frame off.... everything is done except for the paint and the interior, i had it walnut shell blasted and was wondering what i have to do to repaint it... do i have to re-gel-coat it or is there just a thick primer that i can put on it and block it out???? thanks everyone

Chris

Welcome to the best foprum!! When I had mine blasted they ended up putting a couple of coats of slick sand and sanding each coat until all the waves were out of the body. Hope that helps you.

Hey watwheel, What did they blast it with and how much did it cost?

They used plastic media and he charged me $700.00. Best thing was I took it to him in the morning and picked it up at 4:00 in the afternoon. That enabled me to get it to my body and paint man that same day. The next morning they were working on the first coat of slick sand. I have to say I was pretty impressed that he didn't ding up the body at all!! He has done a few of these and his work shows that!!

Hey starship

Slick Sand is a polyester resin primer. It is made by Evercoat and is designed to adhere to different materials, filling in voids or waves in the body. Here is the link: http://www.evercoat.com/productDetail.aspx?pID=28
We all know how wavy the fiberglass bodies were and some still are coming straight out of the factory. This product really smooths evrything out. It really does a fantastic job. Check it out at the website.
