Restoring my 68
I'm in the middle of restoring my 68 vette, frame off.... everything is done except for the paint and the interior, i had it walnut shell blasted and was wondering what i have to do to repaint it... do i have to re-gel-coat it or is there just a thick primer that i can put on it and block it out???? thanks everyone

RE: Restoring my 68
Welcome to the best foprum!! When I had mine blasted they ended up putting a couple of coats of slick sand and sanding each coat until all the waves were out of the body. Hope that helps you.

RE: Restoring my 68
Hey watwheel, What did they blast it with and how much did it cost?
|
RE: Restoring my 68
They used plastic media and he charged me $700.00. Best thing was I took it to him in the morning and picked it up at 4:00 in the afternoon. That enabled me to get it to my body and paint man that same day. The next morning they were working on the first coat of slick sand. I have to say I was pretty impressed that he didn't ding up the body at all!! He has done a few of these and his work shows that!!

RE: Restoring my 68
Hey starship
Slick Sand is a polyester resin primer. It is made by Evercoat and is designed to adhere to different materials, filling in voids or waves in the body. Here is the link: http://www.evercoat.com/productDetail.aspx?pID=28 We all know how wavy the fiberglass bodies were and some still are coming straight out of the factory. This product really smooths evrything out. It really does a fantastic job. Check it out at the website. |
