I recently bought a new corvette (2007 conv.) and am a little surprised how much my insurance went up. I knew it would increase, but was shocked by how much it increased (3x what I was paying for a camaro conv.) Are there an secrets or "corvette friendly" insurance companies ? I own 2 other cars and live in the NE, so I don't drive it year round (prob. less than 7500/yr). Just thought I'd ask you guys for any suggestions. Thank you !

Your age and driving record have a lot to do with rates, I insure all three of my vehicles through "Farmers", a decent rate and WAY cheaper that "State Farm".

We have several cars insured with the classic car, think we can only drive them about 3500 miles a year. My 93 daily driver does not qualify under that plan. The biggest shocker to us each year is the property tax rate on the 93, the property tax folk are very proud of that car. The taxes on the 2005 buick park avenue, and the 2005 Z71 truck are about half of the 93. Keep hoping this state will drop property tax, but I'm sure we won't come out a winner, another tax somewhere will bite us. We have called the tax office and have been told that high performance cars are always taxed at a higher rate. Makes no sense to me at all.

Speaking of taxes, I only paid 4 g's for the "Starship", the DMV taxed the purchase at 7.25 %. They said it was a "classic", and appraised it at 15 g's.[:@] I tried to argue with them, the paint, interior, and suspention was shot, but NOOOO, they stuck to the 15 g rate. Farmers ins. was a lot more kind, they let me set the value, I put it at 9 g's, after the new suspension and drive train.
To me, my baby is priceless, but who can afford ins. on "pricless"?:D

I have found over the years insurance rates vary greatly, and shopping around pays off. I am insured through StateFarm right now, and they have given me decent rates for 3 cars, a truck, and my mototcycle. About $89.00 a month for my vette, full coverage of course under the limited miles plan. Less than 8,000 per year. I have my 52 chevy insured for actual value, at 20K, and than full coverage on the other ones. I'm paying $359.00 per month for everything including home owners.
Unfortunately like most of us, I'll never use it enouigh to cover the money I put in it.
