You really can't go wrong with either the Valentine or the Escort.

RE: Radar Dectectors?

As of January of 2006, there are no actually effective radar / laser jammers on the market. Florida Dept. of Law Enforcement buys them all and test them all every year, and there is no magic one out there that is really any more effective than most others for emmission detection. Thay basically will all sense the emissions, however as previously mentioned, if the operator has the unit off, estimates the speed of a speeding vehicle, then subsequently activates the unit and targets the vehicle, the detector will basically be telling you you may be getting a ticket. vehicle shape and composition are irrelevant, they can laser or radar people on bicycles or go peds. As long as the object is tangible, there will be a reading.

Ever notice that law enforcement officers don't really but those types of devices ? But the brands previously mentioned are top of the line. If you are not the target vehicle, they are great at telling you someone nearby is about to get a ticket.

RE: Radar Dectectors?

All a detector is is a reciever. Most people with detectors who get tickets, get them because they don't know how to use their detector. It's not magic, it doesn't grant you immunity. If I'm travelling alone I slow before cresting a hill. If there are cars in front and my detector goes off for just an instant I know someone is using instant on. If a signal is steady getting stronger and no one is behind me, I'm drawing closer, if I pick up a second signal while the first signal grows weaker they're working in a team expecting you to speed up, etc.... You've got to recognize the limitations and use it as it should be. Done right it'll save you a lot of money.
