View Full Version : 07 Camaro info?
06 Vette 08-15-2006, 10:50 AM Anybody kno when their supposed to be out? I've checked em out online but ya can't find any info thru GM. Still looking for my 17 y.o. daughter a car for b-day (18th Jan 3) & I've always loved the camaro...is it too fast for a 17 y.o. girl?
C3 Starship 08-15-2006, 01:15 PM First check with a dealership, they might be able to help.
Too fast? You know your daughter, how's her head screwed on? Any car will take you fast enough to get major personal damage. ( age doesn't really matter, responsibility does ) My best advice was posted on your post about feeling safe in your Vette vs. the SUV. "Safety... anyone ever feel unsafe"

I don't mean to be a Negative Nelly here on this one, that's for sure.. but, yeh, there's no way I'da let our son near a rod when he was that age. Too prone to peer pressure to be able to curtail himself when prompted to "light 'em up!!"... and with this kinda power under foot, things happen so fast.... his first car we got him was a inline 6 Mustang.. enough power to get around, but not so much that stuff would happen too fast for him to process and not be able to respond to.
Now, with that being said, maybe your daughter would be less prone to this sorta egging on? That's a judgement call on your end. For us, the fear of that late night phone call was so great, there was just no way we were going to enable that.
C3 Starship 08-15-2006, 03:50 PM Too true Top Speed!!! Very well put!!!;) Good wisdom there!!!
O6, maybe find out what cars your daughter thinks are "Cool" and take it from there. Who knows, she just might prefer a new V-dub or Hummer III. I understand that you would like to see her in a new Camero, but that's your taste. Balance style with reason.

Ya know, my friend, we struggled with this question ourselves. I mean, maybe we were too careful here on this topic, made it so our son didn't get a chance to enjoy himself as much as he coulda. Maybe we were overprotective. We'll never know now.
At the time he graduated from high school, I had a pretty nice Mustang Cobra GT in the garage. Him and I spent a lot of time tinkering with it and cruising in it together. Had a blast. When it came time for his grad, we talked about letting him use the Cobra for his night out. That conversation was so full of fear on our part, we elected to not allow him to do so.
It's one of those things where you'd never know if you were right, if you know what I mean?
TopSpeed 08-15-2006, 04:03 PM BTW, on topic here, I *believe* I read something recently where the new Camaro wasn't going into production until the 2009 year. I found this snippet on a site:
Be sure to read about the new Camaro concept car unveiled at the 2006 Detroit Auto Show (NAIAS)! Unfortunately there are no plans for a 2006 or 2007 Camaro at this time but check out our FAQ on the possibility of a 2008 or 2009 Camaro.
I could totally be wrong on that, as I am going from memory, but I don't believe we are going to see this car anytime soon unfortunately.
06 Vette 08-15-2006, 04:05 PM thanks...I think girls are different than boys as far as peer pressure in an auto LOL, I see that on a daily basis on the roads. We'd narrowed it down to Pont G-6 hardtop vert (she likes some imports but hubby wont buy imports) also on her list was crossfire, solstice, sky but they're just to tiny (for us & we are buying). It's a surprise for 18th b-day/graduation combined, something to take her off to college. We had camaros when we were young so we always said if they came back out that's probably what we'd buy, but hubby at this point has done no research so he knows nothing bout the power of it, once he sees that...he might change his mind. What we liked bout the G-6 is that it's AMERICAN made, safety...(5* rating), it weighs 4,600 lbs & were of that "bigger better mentality". So who knows, it appears the camaro wont be out tho til after we need it (1/3)...AGAIN thanks!
TopSpeed 08-15-2006, 04:10 PM Those Pontiac G-6's are a beautiful car. I have heard nothing but great things about them. I really think that's a great idea, myself!
BTW, I like the way yer hubby thinks about cars. ;) I think the exact same way.
The Crossfire is a real nice car, too. Mercedes underpinnings. That thing is a real barn burner, for a non V8 car.
06 Vette 08-15-2006, 04:11 PM what's a "V-dub"? I liked the H-3 she said yuck

Volkswagen. I think they have a new GTI model out this year.. hmm, I know very little about the dubs myself..... I don't think this is going to be an avenue of interest for you guys, considering.....
H-3 is a glorified Tahoe these days. Very useful and cool, sure, but it's not the same thing as the older Hummers at all.
C3 Starship 08-15-2006, 04:30 PM I only mentiond the H-III cause younger folk seem to be impressed by a "Hummer".
Personally the only "Hummer" I'd have is the Military version, like Arnold (I'll Be Back) has.
Other than that, they are a new body on a Suburban or Tahoe frame.

06 Vette 08-16-2006, 11:13 AM Still cant find any info, salesman wont call me back! It's a salesman we deal with all the time but I think I'm fixing to call someone else, with that said I've read conflicting stories...some say camaro out in 07, others say (like you) 08-09 hum? GM has NO info online (that I can find) which leads me to think it may be the latter so if that's the case, the G6 is it! The G6 is actually a cute car & very sporty looking with the top down. HEY I'd of been absolutely thrilled at her age regardless of what I got...I remember coming home from school one day & there was this pinto station wagon (this was 1980) parked in our driveway, I got so excited only to find out it was a tow vehicle for our motor home. I'd been thrilled with a pinto & were worried if she'll like a 07 G6 convertable...something wrong here!
TopSpeed 08-16-2006, 02:30 PM LOL, great post!!!
Yeh, I follow the Camaro legacy pretty closely. Next to the 'Vette, the Z/28 is the greatest creation of all time, in my books. I know they were originally planning on using the Buick Zeta platform and were targetting '07 for initial release. I *believe* they moved away from the Zeta platform, although info is kind of lacking out there, and I could be wrong on that. But, I do recall quite clearly, reading an article in the last couple weeks that stated GM had elected to wait till '09 for the first run of the new production. This is relatively new news, as far as I know, so I am not surprised it hasn't made it's way out into the world quite yet....
The concept is getting a lot of mixed reviews. I like it. A lot. But not near as much as the beloved and beguiling 1969 Camaro Z/28 of yesteryear.
Let me know if you learn anything otherwise to what I *think* I know!!! :)
06 Vette 08-17-2006, 02:17 PM just talked to my salesman & he said it's looking more like the 08 model which might be available spring/fall 07...says that's been the latest they've heard thru GM. Which is too late for us, but the more I research, the more I see this may not be the car for her. Who knows tho, she's a sensible driver, not crazy & not speedy...that lil accident she had 6 weeks after getting her license knocked some sense into her lol!
TopSpeed 08-17-2006, 02:30 PM I hate to be a party-pooper, but I do know sometimes the dealers are behind on news... I worked at my Uncle's car dealership for years a long time ago, and sometimes they wouldn't get new news for awhile.

How about a new(or old) GTO. Another fav from the muscle car era. '07 or '67 either way nice car. if you like pontiacs.
Lee Willis 08-20-2006, 11:39 AM This is an interesting thread for several reasons. I have a couple of thoughts on this . . . .
First, I would not put too much stock in the salesman's prediction. GM is notoriously slow to bring new products to market and even if they use every CAD/CAM trick in the book, fall '07 is about as early as it could be -- I'd guess six months later.
Second, GM almost never gets a new model "right" from the word Go. Their cars are notorious for teething problems -- eg., the '84 Corvtte, alot in between, and now the C6 Corvtte -- its never anything big, always just minor, usually electrical, nuisances, lots of them. Point is: be wary of buyng a new GM model in its first year of production, or if you do, buy a nice demonstrator with about 5000 miles (let the dealer go through all the headaches of sorting it out).
Third comment: based on experience (my own as a kid) and of raising three kids plus watching neighbors raise theirs: a Kid always tears up their first car in about two or three years, new or not. Not saying they wreck it necessarily (but a lot do) but they just seem to wear the thing out, they are very hard on a car as they learn to drive and do a lot of stupid little things that you never hear about that just beat the hell out of it. It only last a few years, new or not. So, for that first car, something durable, strong, and safe, but cheap, too, is ideal. I got all three of mine a used car at first -- what I called a sacrificial goat -- and then bought them something new, and really nice, two to three years later. Worked out great.
TopSpeed 08-21-2006, 04:40 PM "Sacrificial goat" :DClassic, Lee!
blueshark 09-21-2006, 02:48 AM just came accross this thread again. Mrs. 06Vette what did ya'll decide on.
06 vette girl 09-21-2006, 09:39 AM hey hey...don't need til Jan 3, her 18th b-day BUT we think it's the G6 convert, we have to order by Nov 1 to get it in. Technically it's not her 1st car, she's been driving a suburban for close to 3 years now. I drove the G6 & was impressed at the size, the weight (4600 lbs), how solid it felt. Hopefully this will be a total surprise, she has an idea we may buy her something smaller than the suburban for when she goes off to college in the fall, just wont be expecting it this soon.
