Hi I have a C5 and my wife took it to work today. There was a small patch of fluid towards the front right portion of the engine bayon the garage floor. It was purple in color. There looked like there could be some seal debris. Before I get to inspect it does anyone know what this good be?

I installed a blackwing air filter last weekend and some of the oil has come out from this and is what dripped on the floor.

I don't know what you have in the way of intake sensors, or if this filter is like a K&N, but if it is, and you have too much oil on the filter, it can cause serious problems with air mass filament sensors on some vehicles - and subsequent problems as well.

On my 98 GMC, it can cause tranny electric control problems from a misread air mass reading, which if left unresolved, can put the tranny into the limp mode, and with cranked up tranny hydraulic pressure, serious problems will quickly ensue.

As a comparableexample, a brakelight bulb for new Volvos MUST BE SPEC, or the vehicle's computer will read erroneous voltage/resistance, then 'think' the brakes are on, and attempt to release the torque converterat the same time when it is locking up.

I have firsthand knowledge of this. Simple problems can cause serious problems...

Thanks for the info. I will keep tabs on it. The MAF sensor is on top of the filter and this is similar in style to a cone type K&N intake (albeit not conical - lol). I have a K&Non my Explorer and BMW andhave re-oiled a few times in each of these instances. I am fairly sure I didn't over oil it but suspect I didn't give it time to fully dry and the warmth of the engine bay has warmed up some of theexcess, made it less viscous and run out.

Having said that I think I may go and check around the MAF inlet to see if thereare signs of a lot of residue further up towards this. My friend did have an issue with his MAF in a Mustang due to over oiling and gave ita good clean with electrical contact cleaner.

I'llpost back if I find anything interesting.

There wasn't any sign of residue on the MAF or the neck of the filter although I did confirm the fluid was from the filter. There was some residue on the botttom which I have wiped of. Only took me 20 minutes to get the whole lot on and off again that time!.
