Is it true that if you have a tilt steering wheel you shouldn't try and change it out? I have read that it is very difficult. Just wondering because I would like to change it if it isn't that bad. Mine also telescopes out.

I have never heard that. I have fixed a few and it didn't seem to be very hard. But I have never done one on a vette...... so maybe. are you talking about the intire colum or just the wheel. either way it had to be assembled and installed so I think it is doable. Cheers

There must be something about different about the 76 wheel, thats the only year thats never listed in the catalogs. they sure had some skinny steering wheels in the old days. PG

The 76 uses the Vega steering wheel. The hub and some of the upper column pieces are different from other years of Vettes. If you check around, you can find some Vega-compatible parts for a 76, as this is a popular steering setup for frame-up hotrod building... Pinto or Mustang steering with Vega columns.:D

If yours isn't a 76, then swapping out the wheel itself is just an hour or so job. No real difficulties, and no real surprises. It makes for a good time to check/change contacts in the horn and lots of other housekeeping in there.
