1962 engine block?
Hello. I have a block that seems to be from a 1962 Vette. The partial Vin and engine numbers are as follows. 4109185 FI226RE. The block has a casting of 870721 G15 and then in another location it looks like 81264N. This block was in my 66 Nova when I purchased it in 1974. I was told it had come out of a vette but it had a 283 crank I believe as I was told it was a 302 in the car. It also had a Crower roller cam and domed pistons at the time. I was wondering if anyone can tell me anything about the block and if it was a 340Hp based on the RE engine numbers. It is no longer in the Nova as I have found and put the original L79 motor back in. This engine block was located somewhere in So Cal as the Nova has been in the Los Angeles area since it was first sold and the car has always been within 15 miles of me since my friend had it in the early 70's. So the Vette had to have been in the South Bay at that time. I am finishing up the restoration of the Nova and just going thru parts I pulled off it and may be interested in selling the block if it is worth anything to a Vette owner. I was thinking of building another 302 for fun till I read the block numbers. Let me know. The distributor I took off it is actually a Z28 dated July 1968 so the motor was definitely built from scratch with high performance parts.
