Default Hood Release handle removal question

I have a 63 coup - I purchased a new replacement hood handle. The new handle is threaded on the inside with a small allen key. The old handle appears to be threaded on with no allen key. I tried to remove the old handle but it's on tight - did not want to force it. Is the handle an integral part of the rod attaching to the cable? If so or if it's threaded on, has anyone had experience removing? I also have a 63 convertible and in that case the hood release handle is worn and came lose and I can clearly see it's threaded on. the coup is an early production car and the convertible is a late production car. there seems to be a little trick with every aspect of working on a vintage car - thought I would tap the collective wisdom of the forum

I would check with some of the aftermarket suppliers such as Wilcox, Zip, and Paragon. They have some knowledgeable tech people that can probably help you.
