Default "corvette" air conditioning?

Hey everyone, I was looking in the N.A.D.A. book at 1972 corvette convertables. They had as options, factory air conditioning, also,"corvette air conditioning". I had never heard of this. Anybody know the difference. I always thought of air conditioning as the effect you get when you drive with the top down!

When they did away with the wing vents in '68, they came up with what they called "Astro Ventilation" which was outside air coming in thru the kick panel vents and going out the vents in the rear deck by the rear window. Without A/C, on a hot, rainy day, a Corvette is like a sauna. [:@]

Hey '73, Thanks for the info. Was this on all cars? I haven't seen it listed as an option.

Astro Ventilation was standard on cars w/o A/C.

My '72 also has both. Just one more check in the options column!
Those numbers they post in N.A.D.A. sure make me feel good about what I paid for my "oldest child".
Thanks for the info guys.
Man, I love this forum!

Check the vent doors behind the rear window. I believe on an A/C car they are non-functional, ie, they are permanently closed. It will probably still say Astro Ventilation on the glass however but not sure as I put factory A/C in my car after foolishly ordering without. [:@]

I'll check it out in the morning. 73Shark have you had your vette since new? That's great.I had a car when I was a kid I wish I still had. I think that ranks right up there with being married for 34 years. Cheers
