Default 1969 Exhaust Help

Newb here, I have a 1969 Coup 350/300 auto. A prior owner replaced the original exhaust with a 74 exhaust and replaced thestraight tips with turn down tips and filled in the lower bumper holes. I checked the VIN and it did not have factory side pipes. I just recieved the chambered exhaust and new benzals to return it to thestraight tips. Question, where can I find the location dimentions for the benzal holes? The previous owner also filled the original seperation in the lower rear bumper.

You need to order a new rear valencepanel. For 69 there are two different panels. One is solid for 69's with side exhaust and the other has half round openings for standard exhaust with round tips. For 1970 to 1973 the panel has rectangularopenings for the retangular tips. All three panels are interchangable from 68 to 73.

The only problem is I think half of the round exhaust exit was on the valence and half was in the rear quarter. Even If I get a new valence I still have to cut the rear quarter. The prior owner used fiberglass filler to cover the holes. It is a 69 rear exit valence just instead of replacing the valence with a side pipe version when the goof put the turn down exhaust he filled in the holes. I have the new benzals and just ordered the benzal mounts i just need the dimentions for the holes. Thanks for the intrest.

Gotcha. I will measure mine tonight and if someone else hasn't chimed in by morning. I will provide the requested info. Question, did Bubba remove the mounting surface for the bezels when he went glass crazy?

Don't get me started on Buba. Yes he did remove the benzal mounts. I found that out after I recieved the chambered set. I already ordered the mounts they should be here by Wednesday. Every time I try and return a portion of the vehicle to the original part I have to fix 10 things Buba riged. One good thing is Buba left the original 350 in the vehicle. I know, I am shocked as well. I figure everything else can be restored. I spent this afternoon changing the water pump and putting in a high flow. Ofcorse Buba had the heater core bypassed and I had to get a new plug, nipples and tubbing. If I had not gotten such a good deal Buba would limp. Thanks for the help.

I have to appologize for not getting the rear valance measurements for the exhaust cutouts. I have been through a series of unfortunate events over the last couple of days. On the up side, Ionly had a peripheral involvement. If no one else has provided you with the measurements, I will get them today.

Okay, These measurements assume that the rear valance is still removable or at least you can see the seam where it meets the rear quarters. The top of the opening is 6 1/2 inches above the bottom of the panel and centered on the seam. The cutout is 4 1/2 inches wide, again using the seam as a centerline. So, start you cut 2 1/4 inches on each side of the seam. Drop down 2 1/4 inches from the top mark and use that as your reference point to mark out the half circle. You can use a draftsmans compass to draw the half circle on a piece of card stock to make a pattern and then transfer the pattern to the car. Good Luck. Again, sorry it took so long. Jim

I have most of the repair, maintenance, and Assembly manuals for the 69. I even have the General Motors Factory OEM shop manual on CD. None of them have the break down or any photos of the exhaust benzals or the benzal mounting items. Could some one take some pics of the benzals and the interior mounting of the benzals. My email is Fac@earthlink.net. Thanks
