454 Truck block pros & cons
Guess what Dude? I'm puttin' ina 454 out of a '78 1 1/2 ton truck in my C3!
4 bolt, and built to 400+ horses. I don't have it installed yet, 'cause of the weather, but when the weather breaks, the "Starship" will have his new heart.
Do it Dude, you wont regret it!
Cons
....It'll make all your Ford friends feel like Schmidt!
(see my post, "454 transplant, edited by C3 Starship", in the C3 forum. Also, "building a radical 454", posted by blueshark, in the same forum)

I'm also in the process of the same thing, but won't be done for years. My main problem is finding a perfect block and the money associated with making a road demon. I want no flaws because of the boost level I'll be doing.
Thanks for your replies. I enjoyed reading those followup posts. I just wasn't sure if the truck block accomodated the same accessories, hard partsandmodifications as the car block. For example, does it weigh more? Can you overbore them the same or are the cylinder walls thicker?, Does the 4bolt main come stock with a steel crank? In which case I'll regrind this one.I'm doing this on a limited budget so I want to make sure the truck block's the way to go.Thanx again
I got to play with my 454's today, unfortunately it was winterizing my boat. The only thing sadder than parking a Vette in the garage for the winter is winterizing the boat. You really can't do much work on the boat until spring.
Like Starship said, a 4bolt 454 is a 4bolt 454 as far as the block is concerned. One of my 454's even rotates the opposite direction (counter-rotation) for my inboards. Kind of fun to work on when you have to think backwards for things like firing order.
Heads, EFI/MFI/intakes/carbs, exhaust setups can vary widely between cars, trucks, models, years (and even boats), but the block is the same.bill.
