Default 71 Kick Panel Speaker Question

Happy Holidays All!

I am about to begin the teardown and refurb on my 71 dash. (Wish me luck on not cracking anything I have purchased 2 4x6 speakers for the dash and I am looking for speakers to go into the kick panels. Does anyone know if I can use 6x9's without having to cut the panel or fab any brackets? The 71 only had dash speakers and I am hopefull that the upgrade and addition will allow me to hear music with the top down and sidepipes blasting.

Thanks again for any help!

-Ross

Happy Holiday to you to and welcome to the forum.
I think you'll find a Cowl Vent Assembly behind the kick panel so that's not a good place for speakers, but check out "Rear Speakers" in this forum. DeeVeeEight has what you need to hear the music at any speed. PG.

I thought there was an opening to the rear of the vent assy. that's behind the perforated portion of the kick panel that was where the speakers were mounted in '68 thru '70 but not positive. They're relatively easy to take off and check.

I am not sure about a 1971, but in my opinion, 6 x 9's will be too big for the kick panels unless you custom fabricate some speaker pods. You can install up to 5" round, or 4" x 6" in the kick panels without any major modifications, just watch that your speaker magnets are not too big and also mind that you do not interfere with the door/light switch. The door light switch and it's wiring protrude into the kick panel speaker opening.

Did Sanny Klaus bring you new speakers for Christmas?
