Hi All. The rear of my 73 Roadster had the letters removed when it was repainted and the holes were filled in and a fiberglass strip strapped on the inside. So, there's no way to find the existing holes. I've been looking for a replacement set of rear letters, but also need a template for installing because I'm going to have to drill from paint-side in (yipes!). Any suggestions on finding a template? Thanks!

Awhile back, I gave one of the guys on here all the measurements needed to set the "CORVETTE" on the rear of their '81 properly. The only thing I can think is f/ someone on here who also has a '73 to go out and take the critical measurements needed to set the letters correctly on your ride.

There, Mike, in no time, someone w/ a '73 will come to your rescue and give you some very precise measurements that'll get the letters back on your 'Vette perfectly. That's just the kind of site this is.

 

Been gone for a few days but here's what mine are. Suspect all rear bumpered Sharks are the same.

The baseline that the letters rest on is 2.5" above the upper edge of the license bezel. All dimensions are at the letter/body interface which is critical since they are tapered. The right upper corner of the V is on the centerline between the taillites and alarm switch (but doubt yours has that since the letters were shaved). The E is 11/16" from the centerline. The T is 3/4" from the E. The next T is 11/16" from the T. The E is 3/4" from the T. The left side of the R is 1 7/8" from the left edge of the V. The O is 3/4" from the R. And the C is 3/4" from the O.

Good luck. Did you try popping the fiberglass off the inside?

 

Now that you have the measurements, you have a choice to make. You can either run your reference lines and redrill the rear panel or can remove the studs and emblem adhesive to stick them on.

If you drill, run the drill backwards first. This will keep the paint/FRP from chipping out. Cheers.
