81 C3 value
Hi All, new to the forum so I apologize if I'm putting this in the wrong place. I've had my '81 since about 2014 but it is time to say goodbye to it and was wondering if I can get some Vette experts opinions on approximately what I should be asking for it. Also been researching on my own as much as I can so please don't accuse me of being lazy. New to this site so I haven't figured out how to upload any pics yet so I understand what I'm asking is more difficult. Like every other guy on the planet, I want to get as much as I can for it while at the same time not get screwed. My guess is somewhere north of $10k...am I dreaming??
Again, sorry for the lack of pictures but I have listed a short summary below.
1 - The car is in very good condition in my opinion.
2 - 350 automatic with approx. 127k on the odometer
3 - Not sure if it matters but I'm the 2nd owner and have large stack of paperwork that can prove it
4 - New carpet installed a couple years ago.
5 - Magnaflow mufflers installed a couple years ago
6 - Seats could use a refurb but still not that bad for a 41 year old car
7 - It appears it might have had some minor damage to the front nose piece years ago. Repairs look OK but looks like they could have done a better job.
8 - Previous owner had new engine put in somewhere around 2012-2013 and it appears to be LM1 (?) 350.
9 - All fiberglass appears to be in really good condition. Not an expert though so not sure.
10 - It does need new tires. They hold air but they are showing their age. I haven't drove in about 2 years and tires haven't been a top priority.
11- New door panels from Ecklers

I think you should log in to Bring A Trailer auctions and look at the results for the C3. An '81 needing some work may be a stretch to hit 10k. Without pictures and going by your honest sounding description I think you will probably be closer to 8.
In the past 2 years, I have purchased 2 '73 Corvettes. The first one needs paint and interior assembly, it runs well and is an L82 auto. I paid 5K. The second one was in California and is an L48 auto with a replacement engine in good condition, a reasonable interior fair to poor paint and needing tires badly. Also needed a fuel tank and ignition switch replacement. I paid 2800.00. There are a lot of lesser cars at low prices out there.
I don't want to discourage you or rain on your parade, maybe it would be in your best interest to do some work first.

The guide has the '81 listed at $8,500 for Needs TLC category to $22,000 for the Show Ready category. The Average category is listed at $12,000. You can add $2,000 for a four-speed transmission and $700 for optional wheels. This was published last December so prices may have changed a little bit but this should give you an idea. Corvette Magazine does fairly extensive research on developing these numbers.

I apologize for reanimating this really old thread but I got distracted by some life things and finally getting back to this. I haven't sold the car and it's literally still sitting in the garage and hasn't moved since I posted this a long time ago. Looking for a good way to sell the car, this site's classified section be a good place to move this corvette? Most of the posted dates look reeeeeally old. I don't like dealing with people so I'm ruling out craigslist...did that once a long time ago with another car and never doing that again. The nerve of some the people's inquires LOL. I'm in the pacific northwest (southern WA) if anyone here is local and looking. I think I'm going to be asking $10k and being up front about the tires it still needs. I can be flexible but not too much
