Default Back Again

I finally got everything back together with the new 383 a couple of weeks ago. Been driving daily to get some miles on the new motor before heading to the track. Put on some new Goodyear 275/50 X 15 Drag Radials Saturday morning and went to the track Saturdaynight for some test and tune. I made several passes all within a tenth of a second of each and all within 1 mph of each. The best of the passes was 12.742 @ 110.52. I made all of the passes in street tune with air cleaner on and complete exhaust in place. I was tempted to uncork the headers but stuck with my game plan. Needless to say I am pleased with the combination, especially since I still have the factory 2.73 rear gears.

W/ the headers open, and the carb tuned, it should run well. W/ gears, you'd really take some time off. Nice going!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds like you built yourself a real screamer.

Must been an auto tranny. You get great torque multiplication at launch. Still it must be a pretty strong engine.

Yes I do have an auto tranny. Stock Turbo 350C with a B&M shift kit and a Hughes 2500 rpm converter. I really wish I had gone a little higher stall as this converter seems to be really tight. It is only a slight difference from stock. With the 2.73 gear it leaves the line really slow. 60' times are in the 1.98 to 2.01 second range.
Now I just have to save the $$$ to do the rear gear. I'm thinking of just going to a 3.73 to keep the car streetable and not have to turn too many R's on the highway.

Here is a pic of the new 383 just before I took it off the engine stand to sit it in the car.

3.73's will kill you on the highway unless you have overdrive.
