De-Smogging a 1981 C3

Default De-Smogging a 1981 C3

To de-smog a 81 C3 do I have to change the Carb and the Distributor ?

Welcome to the forums. Yes you will need to remove both. The carb and distributor are now both controlled by the ECM. You will need a pre 81 carburetor (non electric) and a pre 81 distributor 4 pin module with a mechanical and vacuum advance.

Also the ECM fuses will need to be removed or the check engine light will stay on.

Thanks for asking. I have all of the external stuff removed and the stainless tubes in the exhaust cut off and tig welded closed. Ordering a earlier distributor today. When I get that installed and the timing set I will see how the carb is going to work with the sensors unplugged !!

Are you replacing the carburetor also with a pre 80s non electric carb also?
