Welcome to the Corvette Forum. There were about 49,213 built so your VIN might give you a clue.

There's a website (PG knows what it is, I couldn't find it) that will give you an approx. build date based on your VIN.

Edit: Flying Low posted it: http://www.c3registry.org/index.php?...r&uid=5922

Welcome to the forum cr55. My 1978 was built on Oct. 3, 1977, I don't know the cut-off date when they changed over from '77 to '78. I ordered some parts for the T-tops for a '78 and they don't fit, apparently I need 1977 parts. I know the car is original, I think the factory just mixed and matched whatever they had in stock when it was close to model year change-over.

ie; The parts in my steering column(tilt/scope) match up w/a year and two prior. When I researched how late into the year mfg'ing continued on the Corvette, I couldn't believe it. 'Vettes were still being mfg'd f/ the present year months afterother models of thefollowing year were already out on the street.
The site that "shark" posted is about the best f/ checking the birth date of your 'Vette. It'sresultsf/ my 'Vette coinsides w/ my door sticker and the info I found from researching the order/dates from Bowling Green along w/ the original manufacturing/shipping documents.
