Exhaust system?
Alright it is finally time for me to do an exhaust on my car I would like to keep and under car system and put headers on and I was wondering if anyone knew of a complete system including headers an pipes for a 74? or will i have to buy the headers and have a custom exhaust made and installed?
thanks for the info in advance

a while back i found a dual exhaust system for my 81 from midamerica and then ordered some long tubeheaders and all i had to do was cut thepipes shorter to make up the difference for the stock manifolds to the long tube headers.
There's a company that makes a header that replicates the stock manifold's exit so that the stock exhaust pipe w/ hook up w/o mods. If you're interested, let me know and I'll see if I can locate their name.

I have been doing some homework and i have noticed that all the pipes for a L82 start at 2 inches off the manifolds then are expanded to 2 1/2 inches is this how they came originally?

would there really be any advantage to those to those headers compared to the stock manifolds? Marginally better. The advantage is mainly that no fab is req'd.

Not sure why they didn't use the ram horn manifolds that were used on the hi perf 327s in the mid-years as they had 2 1/2" outlets.

Thanks for the info Shark
Does anyone know where the pipes expand to 2 1/2 inches?
Cause i was thinking about getting a set of long tube headers and a set or original style pipes for and L82 and cut them and fit them to the headers...but i don't want to do that if the pipe is expanded to 2 1/2 to far down on the pipe

My memory seems to say that they went from 2" to 2 1/2" just below the manifolds. I know that when I ran under car headers, I fabbed a short piece of 2 1/2" pipe to connect to the tailpipe at the crossmember. That way I didn't have to ruin the original exhaust pipe. A bit of trivia - the OEM 2 1/2" L-82 exhaust system was double-wall. Don't know if the L-48 or LS-4 were or not.
If the pipes go from 2" to 2 1/2" just below the manifolds i should not have any problems if i were to cut the pipes and hook them up to headers right?
As for the bit of trivia what do you mean by double-wall?

Double-walled exhaust tubing was just two layers of pipe w/ no space in between them. Early attempt to extend the life of exhaust systems before aluminized and stainless steel.
You realize that even if you cut the original pipes off, they'll probably require some bending to line up w/ the collector.
