Gas Fumes.
I still have gas fumes after I park in the garage, I hooked up the vapor canister but there are still fumes. I found this part, they say it allows vapor to escape the tank into the charcoal canister, but does not allow raw gas to do the same. I never even new this part existed, has anyone ever tried it? www.corvette-paragon.com/catalog/default.aspx or is there anything someone else used to stop the fumes? PG.
Pg, if you have liquid gas getting to the charcoal canister I think you may have a plumbing problem or your over-filling the tank. The tube for the vapor line comes off the tank at it's highest point, you would have to fill the tank to a level where liquid is coming up the fill tube. I would check the rubber connections at the tank again and disconnect the vapor line, blow air through it to make sure it is not plugged and double check the line routing and connections.
Hi 78buckshot, I'll try to check those lines and make sure they are clear over the weekend. In fact I'll go front to rear, there are no drips or leaks on the garage floor, and it smells from fumes even with a half a tank. The charcoal canister was just hooked up and it still has fumes so Thanks for the help, this problem has me stumped. PG.
When I found liquid gas coming from the cannister, I discovered that the vacuum operated valve on top was leaking and never allowing intake vacuum to the cannister to purge the trapped vapors. Glued it back together and fixed the problem.
I've never seen that fuel separator valve. Do you know where it goes?

Hey pg, I had one other thought, check the carburetor for fuel boiling over after you shut it down. The carb can heat soak after shut down and expand the fuel causing it to percolate into the throttle bores and/or through the vent tube at the top of the carb. However, from the info offered by others it sounds like the charcoal canister is still the prime suspect

Sounds like the Carb could be causing the problem.
When I first bought my Vet I had a similar problem. Turned out to be the floats were not set right.
Easy fix.

73shark, I'll put a vacuum pump on the line from the canister to the carb and see if I just get air or if any gas pulls out.
I never heard of the fuel separator valve either but in the 74 service manual p8-13 under Evaporative Controls Systems it mentioned Liquid Fuel Seperator.
Like RichG says it's mounted on the corner of the tank. I didn't know that and I'll see if I have one there.
78buckshot, your right, lots of fumes after hot shut down- gave the air cleaner a sniff test-Wow-mabye that's where the fumes come from.
Also I have a small garage 10 feet wide and just 6 inches to the front wall and just 6 inches behind the car to close the door so maybe that small area makes it smell worse?
SCHOON, I have no clue about adjusting the float. I just bought a used carb to take apart to practice on. The numbers on the practice carb are 7028212 DH it's a Q-Jet andlooks a lot like mine, I think it's from a 68 Chevy.
If I do open up mine shoud I bend the float up or down and how much?
