I have a 74 Vette. The interior is "tan" and looks as old as it is. I'm looking to replace the upholstery. Carpets, seat (covers only if I can get away with it),interior door "felt",sun visors, etc.

Anyone know if the kits in the variouscatelogs are easy to install? Should I use a professional?If so, what should I expect to pay?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

 

Hi, I installed the carpet and insulation in a few days, you'll have to trim the carpet a little, but it was an easy job. As far as the seats, I had someone install the new foam and covers that was $200. extra. You'll think your in a new car once thats done. Don't forget to change the weather stripping first or you'll ruin everything.PG

If you drive your car on a regular basis and drive it in the rain, bad weatherstripping will allow water to bypass the seals and get into the interior and ruin the carpet and underlay. Good weatherstripping also reduces road noise by sealing out the wind. There is nothing wrong withwaiting until last to do the weatherstripping as long as you don'tdrive in the rain or use any kind of hose to wash the car or run it through a car wash.

 

O.K., Ya, I'm puttin' on the weather stripping upon completion of the new interior.

 

It is relatively easy to dothe rugs, seat covers ,and other interior pieces. The most thing is to purchase quality products. This is not the place to go cheap.
1. You are going to be looking at that interior every time you drive the car.
2. It is not a job you want to do again.
3. If you buy cheap stuff it will not fit properly and you will spend countless hours getting it to look acceptable.

I have had great success with Al Knoch interior products as they are made from quality materials and are assembled to fit correctly. You can find cheaper but beware if they don't fit right you will wish you had spend the couple of extra bucks for the good stuff..

Another reason to get all of the stuff from a good supplier e.g. Al Knoch is the color match will be a lot better than if you get from two or more different ones.
