Default Looking to buy a 68-73, what are the problem areas?

Hello Everyone, a newbie here.
I am looking to buy a 68-73 big block vette.
I was wondering about where to look for problems.
I've heard that frames are prone to rust - where are the problem areas?

Anything else to keep in mind?

I've owned many camaro's and a 1988 Z51 Vette, and just happen to have a spare 454 with alum heads and a mild roller cam....

Welcome to the forum.

68's had lots of quality problems and some one year only items like door panel. 68-72 had wiper door issues but had chrome bumpers front and rear. Low compression started in 71, HEI in 74, and cats in 75. 74 was last year for big blocks. 76 had a Vega steering wheel. 74 had the seat belt starter interlock.

Frame rust was a problem at the rear wheel kickup. Somewhere along the line they opened up the end to allow water, etc to drain out.

If you're a novice re: Shark Corvettes, I'd suggest finding a local club and get someone to help.

Good luck and let us know how you do.

Rear suspension mountings need to be checked out. Trailing arm bushings and center mount for differential should be scutinized. Axel shaft u-joints need inspecting too.
