Default LT1 Oil Pan

Was there two different type Oil Pans on the 1970 Corvette?
A buddy has one (LT1) and was going to install power steering and could not because the oil pan would not clear the steering rod (center).
someone told him they made two different pans.
I never heard this before.
his Pan holds 7 qts. Of oil.
Any information would be appreciated.

Welcome to the forum. It sounds like your friends LT-1 has an aftermarket oil pan.

There were two small block oil pans used in 1970. Early 1970 LT-1 engines used the 7 quart oil pan with a trap-door baffle. Later '70 LT-1s and all other engines used the standard 5 quart Corvette pan with the regular pan baffle. The large 7 quart pan does not provide clearance for the power steering cylinder. I believe the 7 quart pan was also used on the earlier fuel injected 327s. The 7 quart pan was not used after 1970.

Interesting info that I didn't know. My L-82 has a six quart pan.
