Default my 79 nightmare

Well where to start?
Problem # 1 I have been replacing interrior parts and can't find the lightbulb housing that goes under the shift position indicator window on an auto trans, any ideas where to find one?
Prob. # 2 I need a vacuum system diagram to troubleshoot my headlights that won't raise up!
Prob. # 3 The electrical system is butchered, no reverse switch, headlights turn off when clicking to high beams and come back on going to low beams, dome light won'tgo out when door is closed, tachometer goes to redline and won't return when engine is started, water temp gauge doesn't move(probably doesn't work), blower motor doesn't work when turned on, power door lock wires were cut at soleniods and lock rods were missing (both sides), and the telescoping unit in steering wheel is broken (it won't lock in place).HELP ME !!

Default Where do you want to start?

Hi puppychow and welcome again.
You need a copy of the AIM to see just how a 79 put the bulbs.
Headlights: Whn't go up:Most likely bad actuators-What Catalogs do you have I'll tell what page. And then you can compare to your car.
#3: Are the bulbs good and the corect bulbs in? Low beam connectors have 3 connections and high beams have 2.
Hope this helps, PG.

I had the same head light problem, it's a gromet and not the actuator. Go to: http://www.corvette-101.com Then go to vacuum trouble. It explains the testing step by step.

Thanks guys,

PG- I only have Ecklers but ordered Mid America.
Watwheel- not correct housing butstill looking.
Texas Jim- vette 101 is great, will start testing this weekend.
The car is worth fixing but why did chevy do things this way? The KISS principle should have been applied.

Hi again, all of our car had a lot of "Bugs" but you'll get to them all in time.
Ecklers page 8 shows the headlight actuator or you can get just the seal, ring and boot. PG

Get yourself a factory repair manual, assembly manual and a wiring diagram. plan out what needs to be done, research it and tackle one problem at a time. good luck and dont get discourged.
