Question New Car

Today I purchased my first Corvette. My excitment is almost killing me. I've wanted a '75 for a LONG time; I am now the proud new owner of my own white '75 Stingray.

Here's the story though: I am currently in Law School and don't have time to do a lot of research about my car (hopefully I'll have time for that in a few years) or to do a lot of mechanical things for myself. I DO however want to be a responsible Vette owner. I know my car is over thirty years old and will need regular maintanance, but I have no idea what that maintenance is. My question is, what are the recurring things things I need to do to keep my car running in prime condition?

Seeing as I'm admittedly niave, I'm looking for the whole range, from the very basic (oil change ever X miles) to the things that I don't know needs done, but is necessary none-the-less. Thanks to everyone for their support, from both myself and my new car.

Cool

CONGRATULATIONS. Feels great doesn't it!

Keep the oil changed every 3k miles. Every time it goes up on a rack,I allways look at the u-joints. Helps me sleep better at night.
Enjoy!

HI piratejosh, congratulations on getting your new 75 Vette and welcome to the forum.
Have your Vin # handy and call GM at 1 800 222 1020 and ask for the free "Specification & Restoration Package", in the meantime here's some information to help you get started. PG.

Congrats on getting your dream. Don't worry, unless the car has been completely restored recently, you'll learn all about it in the next few years. A lot of folks here can help you w/ any questions.

You get basic information like what you would find in the owners manual. PG.

Yes, getting that grease gun on every fitting there is will keep alot of the undercarriage from premature wear. (I hate seeing those joints w/o a fitting) When replacing any U-joints or front end jointed components, try and get the components w/ grease fittings. This ofcourse is my opinion. I've heard people say that the sealed components w/o the fitting is just as good, and I've read many times that one shouldn't pump grease into ie; front end components to the point where it's coming out of the rubber cap, but for me, I'll take the ones I can get new grease into regularly, and I do pump the old grease out to a point, where some grease is coming out. I've never had premature wear on any components using this method.
Good luck w/ your new (old) 'Vette. I hope in years to come, you don't sue us if the info we gave you here in some way brought undue wear or damage to your 'Vette. LOL. I wish you the best w/ your schooling. finishing your schooling will be one of THE most important accomplishments in your life. Good Luck.
