new member; brake calipers
Hi to all! I need some help with my leaking front calipers. Im pretty good with replacing parts but I'm not sure about taking the calipers apart and replacing the seals. Any suggestions besides buying new ones. They are SS pistons, seem to work OK except leaking around seal. Were replaced in 92, so I was told. Thanks to all in advance.
Hi edh1005, and welcome to the forum, I never bothered to rebuild my calipers, I just got rebuilt ones at auto-zone. In 6 years and 25,000. miles 3 of them leaked and each time they gave me a free replacement and new free pads.
If your still interested in doing it yourself, all the sponsers offer rebuild kits and it's easy to do. PG

The reason most calipers leaked is the bores pitted due to moisture in the brake fluid. DOT3 is hygroscopic. A reason a lot switched to silicone brake fluid. If you only want to do it once, get stainless steel lined calipers.
