Default One headlight stays open

My 71's passenger side headlight and the panel that comes up when the windshield wipers are are on are staying up when I shut everything off. Is this a vacuum problem and is there seperate vacuum canisters for each headlight? Ive lubricated all the hinges, the drivers headlight comes up and down fine. Thanks for any info, I dont have a manual yet.

Yes it is a vacuum problem.
It may be rotted/cracked/leaking vacuum hoses. Most folks swear by docrebuild for these parts. You may also have a bad vacuum control valve or a bad vacuum actuator (or all of the above) 38 years is a long time.

Go to http://www.corvette-101.com which gives you the trouble-shooting procedures f/ that very problem. It should be similar to your 'Vette.

You definately want to invest in a new hose set if they have never been replaced before. There are a number of places where you could loose vacuum. I highly recommend purchasing a quality vacuum gauge to enable you to check at the end of each line. This will help isolate the line if there is a cracked one. It is a little unusual for the wiper door and one headlight to stop operating at the same time as they are on separate sub systems. There could be a leak in your vacuum reserve canister. Have you checked the overide switches under the steering column to ensure you didn't accidentally pull one down?

I do feel your pain. I had a heck of a time with the 69 when I did the restoration. I found my problem at the headlight switch. It was worn and sucking in air, hence, low vacuum.

Good luck!
