Pilot Bearing on 350 Engine
 

I am replacing my clutch and they recommend to replace the pilot bearing at the same time. Does anyone know an easy way to replace this bearing? It looks like it might have been pressed in.

Hi pfey12, welcome to the site if that hasn't already been extended to you. The last time I read something about pilot bushing removal it went like this, find a shaft, rod, or bolt, that is a close fit in the bushing, fill the bushing with heavy grease and pound the shaft into the bushing cavity, the hydraulic pressure is supposed to force the bushing out. If that won't do the trick, I would use a slide hammer and rig up something to grab the back of the bushing.

I've used the grease method, works really well.Once it didn't, and a puller/slide hammerwasn't handy, I used a die-grinder and cut the sucka into thirds. Tapped the pieces out with a screw driver and a small hammer.

Do you have a Harbor Freight store close by. They sell a "pilot baring puller for pretty cheap or you might try going to Auto Zone or advanced auto parts or any nationsl chain auto parts store. Most of them loan/rent tools. It is a simple task with the right tool. takes about 1-2 minutes and no cutting or banging and ne chance of damage.
