problem with starter??
well i had the 68 out today and it seemed as though the starter would kick out and whine like a mopar almost, when we tried to start it??
I checked the battery cables and they look nasty!! would this be a reason for the starter acting like that ? i have had gm starters act funny not turn well etc.. but never heard one kick out like a mopar before!!!?? thanx Tony |
RE: problem with starter??
Sounds like the solinoid is retracting the Bendix gear.
Repair you cables, but I think you'll find that your solinoid is shot. |
RE: problem with starter??
Low voltage caused by low battery or corroded cables may be the culprit but it sounds more like the solenoid/bendix is not pulling in all the way, pull the starter apart and check it out- might be time for a new one.

RE: problem with starter??
Thanx i figured id replace the cables and then see if i need to rip the starter out!!! thanx again!!

RE: problem with starter??
If you "rip" the starter out, keep track of any shims between the starter and the block and put 'em back the same way.

ORIGINAL: C3 Starship Sounds like the solinoid is retracting the Bendix gear. Repair your cables, but I think you'll find that your solinoid is shot. I ment to say...... sounds like the solinoid is not fully engaging the bendix gear. One other thing, the gear may be stipping out, ya know, the teeth are worn. |
