Purchased 1976 L82 4 Speed Have a few ??
Just bought my 1st Corvette which is a 76 L82 4 Speed. I am the 4th owner and the last owner put approx. 1200 miles on the car in the last 10 years. He also spent about $5000.00 over the past 6 years updating and replacing just about everything.
I have 2 questions: When the car is at idle and I turn the air on the motor looses idle and shuts off. What could be the cause for the motor shutting off?? I am also going to put long tube headers on the car and wanted to end the exhaust/mufflers with turn downs before the rear axle. Will there be enough room under the car to end the exhaust ahead of the rear axle or do I need to run the exhaust all the way out to the rear bumper ???
Things I plan to do in the next few months: Long tube headers, Flowmaster Super 44's, Aluminum intake, new carb and maybe a cam.
Thanks

There should be a idle stop solenoid on the driver side of the carburetor. Its purpose is to hold the idle speed up if the air conditioner is on.
Personally I would not have exhaust turndowns underneath the car. These cars are hot enough already without adding more heat underneath.
