Question on coil + wires when installing MSD 6AL
Hello all,
First post on here! I've been using this forum for a lot of info on and off as I work on my dad's 69 Corvette 427 (390HP) and the current question of mine I couldn't find an answer for. On our way back from a car show last summer dad's Mallory dual-point distributor broke (a nut for alternate wiring backed out and fell down inside and jammed the centrifugal advance causing the distributor to slip and lost time). It was quite the sight as I was following him in my 73 Cuda. Well we got it home and I managed to talk him into upgrading/replacing the broken distributor with an MSD tach drive unit, Blaster II coil and MSD Digital 6AL ignition control. I got the unit mounted last night and have a good handle on the wiring.
My one remaining question is what to do with the 2 wires that come off the coil +?
I know ones a resistance wire from the ignition switch, which is why I can't use it to hook to the small red on the 6AL, and the other comes from the starter to give the coil 12V while cranking. Should I follow these back to their source and remove them entirely? Should I separate them and cap them? Or leave them together and cap them? I wanna keep them as whole as possible as dad likes the idea of having the ability to go back to stock.
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Rex
