The rear end on my 69 convertible has the following numbers on it 6871375. It's a 350/350 with a four speed. Will this numberID what rear is in it? Thanks.

 

no it will not. you need a number with two letters in the middle of it . these two letters tell what the gear ratio is. the numbers your looking for is located on bottom surface of the carrier at the cover mounting flange.i wish you good luck, it took me many tries before i could find that number, mine was very hard to see. if you find the two letters i can tell you what the ratio is. good luck

 

The number will be stamped on the machined surface on the bottom of the carrier. You will probably need a wire brush to remove the grease, grime and paint to see it. There will be two letters, four numbers and a letter An example is AM0915G this is the rear in my 69. It decodes to AM (3.36 Posi) 0915 September 9, 1969 and G (Gear & Axle Plant). Let us know what you find.
