Replacing the u-joints and half shaft joints is a good idea, but first, what is the "noise" you have when shifting? You may have a prob not related to your u-joints.
Aclunk or thud, very well could be your differential center mount bushing.

jarrah,
This topic came up one other time not too long ago. If you look through the pages in the C3 area you'll find the topic.
My reply to the topic was that there was an article in the April, 2007 "Corvette Fever" magazine http://www.corvettefever.com on replacing U-joints. It's a good article and covers all the INs and OUTs of the job. Also, in the May, 2007 issue of "Corvette Enthusiast" magazine http://www.corvetteenthusiast.com there's an article on replacing the rear wheel bearings. Also a pretty good hands-on article.
As for rebuilding your brake calipers, I've done afew of them. One thing that I should have posted here in the C3 area but didn't, sorry about that, is that if you do rebuild the calipers instead of buying new ones, don't get the rebuild kits at O'Reillys auto parts. The fluid seals seemed tofit correctly but every kit i got, four in a row,let the caliper leakwhen I put the pressure to it. Same caliper w/o anymore work, got the kit from Auto Zone and it worked perfectly. In the past I had used the kits from Auto Zone and had no problems. (for the Corvette caliper) I also had trouble w/ the dust seal. Even w/ the tool, which I rarely use, I couldn't get the dust seal to fit. It would end up crimping a one point as it was just a hair too big in diameter. Possibly I ran into a bad "lot" of the seal kitsat O'Reillys, but at $15.00 a piece and the store not wanting to do anything about it, I won'tgamble on getting a good "lot" next time.
Good Luck on your work.

Before you jump and buy the rear center bushing, jack up the rear of your Vette, don't forget jack stands, and look at the bushing. If it's shot, it should be pretty easy to see if it is damaged.
Try this....
Put the tranny in low, pop the throttle a few times and listen for the "clunk" or "thud". if you get that sound, odds are that it is the bushing.
If it only does it at shift points, I would suspect the tranny.
You can order the bushing from Ecklers, www.ecklers.com .

U-joints?
Two on the drive shaft, and two on each half shaft that go from the differential to the rear wheels. ( Ecklers also has these. )

Please explain what you mean by, "the brake pump is not working".
Do your brakes not work at all?

I got my rebuilt differential from Ecklers, it came back in a box with Zip's name on it.
I use Ecklers most of the time, but Zip is a great place too.
