Default Restoration of 76

I am a corvette newbie and i have a question about car value. I have purchased a 76 stingray and i have the original engine along (in the shop covered)with a newer upgraded 400HP w/ Cams and Holly Carb installed. The question i have is, should i conisder putting the original engine back in the car so i would have a matching numbers car? Would that increase the value of my car? I know the 76 wasnt a low production car so that would have some influence.

In discussing this with my cousin who is a collectible car person himself he suggested not going that route and keep the car like it is since its a high production number car.

One more question, if i were to sell the original engine, what would be a good price to ask?

thanks for your input.

Default RE: Restoration of 76

Depends. Did you buy the car for an investment or to drive? If the former, then original engine is always a plus. It'll be a while before it matters much for '76s since they built a ton of them. If the latter, then put whatever engine in it that you like. One oft missed detail on '76s is that they used a Vega steering wheel. [sm=badidea.gif] Guess GM saved a buck. Makes it a little tougher to find an aftermarket wheel and more $s.
