Default Start and restart '78

When I start my 78 I have no problems. When I drive around, stop and cut off engine, it will not start again. Turning the key produces nothing. I was told that the starter is too close to manifold (supposedly a common problem with this year) and I should try a heat shield. Has anyone has this problem? Suggestions?

Welcome to the forum.

It could be a bad starter or starter solenoid. However I would check the voltage to the starter when you're trying to start it hot to see if it's actually getting there. No use replacing the starter unless you know it's bad.
