TH400 Fluid Level

TH400 Fluid Level
I CHG'd the tranny pan GSKT this weekend and added Lucas oil stop leak to my "new"'69.
ATI GSKT from JEGs.
Owners Manual says add 7.5pts(=3.75qts) when CHG'ing,...which is less than what I took out.
The dipstick shows that I need more.
I'm currently at 4.5qts, ......and its not on the garage floor.
1) What volume is normal when CHG'ing the trans fluid in a TH400??
2) Did 69's come STD with Chrome trans pans??
3) What is normal min clearance between exhaust pipe and trans pan(w/o side pipes)??
--I'm at 0.125in at one of the rear corners.
Thanks, Ron

RE: TH400 Fluid Level
Hi CC/At and welcome to the forum.
#1 Your correct the book says 7 & 1/2 pints to refill your turbo 400 after draining the pan. Take a 15 mile ride and get the transmission oil hot and recheck it. Then add a half pint go for another ride and check it again untill it is at the full mark.
#2 None of the pans were chrome from the factory.
#3 Not sure what the clearance is between the exhaust pipe and trans pan is.
PG.
