Stock was 15x8 (15x7 in the first years), with 4" backspacing and a 5x4.75 lug pattern. You can go to 4.5" backspacing without rubbing on some (but from what I have hear, not all) C3's. A 15x9 with 4.5" would be about as radical as I would want to go though without some careful measurement and fitting. It sucks when your $2000 set of rims and tires starts rubbing the wheel wells on bumpy roads. I know there are some C3's out there with 8" wide on the front and 10" wide on the back, but I forget where I saw it (other than it did require some work).

thanks , what about tire size ? would also like some ideas about a good all around street tire that sticks good
i am not to worried about mileage 10,000 miles or so would be good and the car will never be driven in the rain

I don't know how wide you can go but I have a 73 convertable that I easily put p255/60r15's on on stock rally rims also 15's. I put firehawk firestones on them and what a great ride.

I have 265/50s on 15s in the rear. They look like they would fit the front too.
They are on 8" wide ralley wheels.

See below.

Original equipment was a GR70-15, which would be a P225 70/15
