Default Trouble finding oil filler cap

Became the proud owner earlier this summer of a '79 L48 (82 body), wet black. The previous owner had the oil changed before the sale, and now the stick reads on the low side. But I can't find the filler cap. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Sam

Welcome to CF, Sam!
Hmmmm....It should be in the valve cover. If you have the old style intake manifold,it should be sticking up between the thermostat housing and the carb.

Well DogCow, the stock valve covers had the oil fill in the left cover, just a quarter turn steel cap. if the valve covers have been replaced with after-market then it could be in either side or may not even have a oil fill. If the engine still has a PVC valve in the valve cover you can use that hole to get oil in the motor, just use a funnel small enough to fit the PVC grommet.

That Dogcow750 handle reminds me of the Kawasaki 750 three cylinder of the mid seventies, we called 'em cow 350's, 500's, 750's.

Could be, Bubba strikes again, eh? [sm=icon_rofl.gif]
In that case, pull the distributor and pour the oil down the hole.
But then again, ya could get a real tiny hose and funnel and fill through the dip stick hole.

Sorry Sam we're not makin' fun, just havin' some, O.K. ?

Sam could do like we did on the Jimmy (GMC) diesels, just pour it on the top of the motor, it'll soak in somewhere.

Yup, clean oil on the top, dirty oil on the bottom.
We called 'em "Screamin' Jimmys", a truck with straight pipes, that sounded like a hot rod.

Thanks guys. The after-market valve covers threw me. Turned out to be a vented cap on the right side; pulled straight off. Just went for a drive on the highway and the engine purred.
