While the economy may be having an influence on our site I feel that we probably need to recruit some fresh blood here too. Tell your friends about the site. Tell other cool car owners you meet about the site. Just don't tell the parasitic internet pharmacy jerks about it, they find out fast enough on their own!

We could all do with a little more picture posting too as pictures tend to be very entertaining and also inspire additional comments like "what color is that" or "where did you meet her"? I am also confident that once the weather deteriorates and we are all house bound again that things will perk up a bit.

I heard from Dave too... he is in the mountains seeking his fortune and enjoying the fair weather....

Default Just to say Hi!

Hi everyone, I stop by this forum a lot and it's very disappointing to see the lack of posts. For a long time I enjoyed visiting here and sharing information. DV8 I'm one of your cheerleaders, you do a lot of mod's and it's interesting to hear about your latest project. I can't believe we might have raced against each other at "Connecting Highway" I had my 66 Vert at the time and my wife had a 70 "Cuda", she got tired of being a spectator and being told to wait up there because her 103 pounds might make me loose. Those were the days. Texas Jim, you gave me the information I needed to center my rear emblem. Without that I might have screwed it up. Schoon you asked about a carb that I know nothing about so I just kept silent in hopes of learning something from another poster.
A special thanks to all my other friends on this forum Watwheel 74 corvette owner 73 shark and to all the other that I have gotten help and encourage from that I did not mention.
As far as my car, just yesterday I replaced a NAPA battery that was 8 years and 4 months old, talk about living on borrowed time, my courtesy lights would come on when I opened the passenger door but not the drivers side, found a white wire and a black wire on that switch. White wire made the lights come on when I opened the drivers door. However with the black wire connected the "Key in Ignition" buzzer went off with or without the key in the ignition. So I left the black wire off, and just hooked the white wire to the new switch. At least the lights go on when I open the door.My guess is that I have a problem in the Ignition switch, but I'm not about to take that apart. Next thing I changed was the "Door Ajar" switch. That switch was bent and the rod would not come out, I changed that but that does not work either.
I had State Farm Insurance and years ago they issued me a "Stated Value" policy, so I went there this week and asked what that meant, the agent said that in case of a loss they would make an offer and back it up with 3 appraisals to prove there offer, then I would have to get 3 appraisals and show receipts to prove the car was worth more. I then called Hagerty and they gave me a "Stated Value" policy for $139.00 per year, that makes me feel a lot better than what State Farm offered for $750.00 per year.
Sorry I could not mention all the friends I've made on this forum, but thanks to all of you.

That's the latest, PG.

I have to apologize for not being on for awhile. I spent time in preparation for the Power Tour with the wife's Camaro, the awesome trip itself and then the post trip maintenance (broke a couple of things). But now I am back in the mix and getting the Vette out every couple of days. The next weekend outings will be an overnight car show in the middle of this month and then Corvette Weekend in Eureka Springs, Arkansas in October.

L46,
Sounds like you've been "doing it up" following the events w/ your rides. More power to ya'. What could be better than that. I think it's great that your wife is also into the cars. My wife will tag along alot of the time, but isn't into it to that extent.
Prior to being married, besides distance running, cars and bikes (motorcycles) were so much of my life since I was a kid. Going to the salvage yards early on Saturday mornings used to be one of my favorite outings since settling in Texas. Here in Texas, you can find not just '60s and '70s rides, but so so many '40s and '50s rides, not just cars, but even panel trucks, ice cream trucks, etc. The searches f/ parts f/ my '62 Ford pu were always great. I could tell you afew stories about finding engine parts f/ that 223ci 6 cyl. which I rebuilt in '90 summer, still has the standard bore and bearings, original lifters and cam and runs like a top. Now those were real American engines.
Your wife's '69 Camaro sounds great. Those were beauties when they were new also, never lost their slot. I remember the sound systems you could get from the factory in those w/ the separate amp and tuner, a good friend of mine had one in his red on red '69 RS Convert back in high school, it was only 3 years old then. The car had a border-line streetable 350 in it and wow did it go. The beauty was that after getting those cars together, they didn't cause you alot of maint. They're simple, strong, and easy to work on, no emission crap in the way, no computers in need of software and analizers, etc. I'll take the old clean all mechanical rides any day.
It's also great that you took the time to give everyone on here a yell. My best to the MRS. and best of luck on your upcoming outings, have a great time.

Jim, Thank you for your comments. I do have a wonderful wife. She is my best friend. She doesn't work on the cars but she does know what it is that I am doing when I work on them. She understands the mechanical aspects of the automobile. She just loves to drive and to admire the engineering and craftsmenship of the builders from the simplistic to the extreme. I built her an awesome 69 Camaro street machine 10 years ago that just keeps getting better. Last fall I installed a new GM crate engine, a TKO 500 and Vintage Air. Now it is is a cruising machine. Her highlight from the Power Tour was to drive 5 laps around Bristol Motor Speedway in her Camaro. She grinned from ear to ear for hours and hours.

You stirred up memories when you mentioned the Saturday mornings in the salvage yard. Over the years I have visited many, many yards. As a young man, I did it to get parts to keep my daily driver on the road. As I got older it was to find parts for the toys. The job I have had for the past 15 years puts me in salvage yards all over the state of Missouri. I do get to see some neat stuff during our inspections.

Another memory you stirred up was the 6 cylinder you had. In 1970, I had a 300 cu inch Chevy truck 6 that I built with a family friend who along with my uncle and dad taught me alot about engine building. We put it in a 23 T Altered with three Weber side draft carbs, a three speed Saginaw and narrowed Ford 9 inch. My maiden voyage down the 1/4 mile (16 years old) was in that car at the now defunct Pocono Drag Lodge in PA. Hope that you enjoy the summer and get out to cruise whenever you can. Remember to drive it like you stole it!!
Jim
