To wrap or not to wrap headers...

I'm somewhat pussled....[&:]
Headers, buy design, are to get the hot gasses out as quickly as possible. So, what is the benefit of wraping headers? Doesn't that just keep the heat more restricted, by not letting the pipes radiate some of the heat away?
I've heard that by wrapping the headers,
you can pick up some power. [sm=insomnia.gif]
Can someone please explain? [sm=dontgetit.gif]

I wrapped my headers, not to pick up power, but to reduce underhood temperatures and thus, cockpit temperatures.

Wrapping headers does keep the heat in, which improves something called scavenging, which in turn gets the hot exhaust gases out more efficiently. You pick up a few ponies this way.
Ceramic coated headers are supposed to improve scavenging by keeping the heat inside of the pipes.
Have you priced a roll of header wrap, and then the high temp. spray paint that goes with it? You just added $100.00 to the cost of your headers!

A hun to keep some heat out of the cockpit, is worth it to me. I'll take on the firewall and floor boards too. ;)

Let's see, Big block, 15" x 10" centerlines, fender flares, nest of snakes - so that means sidepipes.... three speed manual with O.D. (is that interstellar O.D.?) and 3:08's, I'm gettin' one helluva mental picture here!

Those 15 x 10's are on all corners. Add ground effects, a wing, 5 pt harnessesesses, an L88 hood, 2 3/4 inches over stock height, and double racing buckets. ;)

Now wrap it in "Black", and stand back! [sm=shades.gif]

( .....intergalactic O.D., a Universe-al cruiser. :D)
