I am new to the forum and a relatively new corvette owner. My 84 is equipped with the automatic transmission and is having a few shifting problems.

When the transmission in in drive everything seems to work very well. The shifts are firm, if not very snappy, no slipping has been noticed. Under light throttle the shifts are smooth and come in the lower RPMs. Under full throttle the shifts are smooth but firm and come along later in the RPMs.

The problem is that when I put the tranny in 1st gear and accelerat it shifts into second without me. Even though the shifter is in 1st gear the tranny will shift like it is in drive. I tried downshifting from D to 3rd and nothing, from 3rd to 2nd and nothing, from 2nd to 1st and nothing. It downshifts when it wants to or when I stomp on the throttle and it will shift down into "passing" gear.

So, it works fine in drive but I have know manual control. I checked the 84 shop manual and performed the road check and everything worked great except for the manual downshifts. Can anyone tell me what the problem may be? Any and all help is greatly appreciated.
