86 Suddenly died
I have an 86 which has not had any problems. The other day I was driving back from the corner gas station and at 25 mph discovered I was coasting. Everything just shut down. I coasted to a stop and tried restarting. The engine will crank just fine but does not appear to be getting fuel. I have read the other posts and was wondering if any ideas or if anyne has had the same thing occur. There was no sputter or rough engine before it shut off. Thanks. This is a great site for us new owners.

was up, a car needs fuel, air and spark to run. what i would do to check which sys. that might be the problem is remove maf and spray alittle starting fluid in the intake. if it kicks over, spark is good[doesn't mean the timings right] and it a good chance it the fuel sys. if it won't kick, take a look at the ignition. it works sometimes, and sometimes its not that simple, but just check one thing at a time. you have to find out were to start.

when u turn the key to "on", do u hear the fuel pump, or can u squirt some fuel out of the schrader valve on the fuel rail?? go and pick you up one of those cheap spark testers...you hook one end up to the wire boot, and ground the other.

It could be the fuel pump, but it could also be as simple as the relay, since the pump will not operate normally if the relay is bad. If you have a volt meter you can check and see if 12v is getting to the pump.
Just a tip, make sure you replace the sock at the bottom of the pump when you put in the new one...ask me how i know (thank god for the warrenty )
