Air Conditioner Compressor

RE: Air Conditioner Compressor
OK, first, does your car have ATC (Auto Temp Control, digital temp readout on the dash)? If not, then either your low pressure switch or the high pressure cutout switch might be suspect. I looked up wiring diagram and the manual a/c switches are in line from the control head. The low pressure (cycling switch is on the accumulator, the high pressure is on the high side line). Check for voltage across the terminals, wiggle connections. If no voltage, check a/c fuse in fuse block. If fuse is good, then the control head is suspect. Of course, if it has ATC, then there is another whole set of diagnostics to go through. Get back to me on this.

RE: Air Conditioner Compressor
I do have auto temp control.
The low pressure switch is on the low pressure line close to the heater core. The high pressure line has two switches next to each other pretty much directly below the low pressure switch. No switches on the drier bottle or compressor.
The 5amp fuse in the fuse box is good. Can't find the a/c compressor relay - where is it located?
What has got me perplexed is that this all started when I disconnected and reconnected thewire at the compressor in order to install a bypass hose at the throttle body. So I can't help but think something is wrong there...
Thanks
Ed

RE: Air Conditioner Compressor
I added a pound of R134a to the system, now the compressor kicks on. So, I must have a leak somewhere which I will start to investigate.
But...
in the meantime, I do have another question.
After I added the freon, both high and low gauges were reading good. When I revved the engine a little (to about 2000rpm), the low gauge started to read lower (the higher the RPM, the lower the low-side pressure). The pressure got so low a couple of times that the compressor kicked off.The compressorcame back on when I dropped the rpms.
What does this mean?

What was the ambient temperature when you were testing it, if the outside (ambient) temp is cool then the system will most likely cycle on the low pressure switch even if the refrigerant charge is correct. In rough terms, if it's not warm enough outside to need A/C then it will cycle.
