You're on the right track......
Let's take this to it's own post under the C4 forum, or General Tech.
Something like....
"From auto to manual ?"
Now just ask your question......
"I want to my change my C4 from an automatic to a manual trans, what will I need, and how should I go about the changeover?
I guarentee you'll have plenty of info show up.
When you get a parts list together, you can then research suppliers and prices.
The more info you get, the better the decision you can make.
Don't be afraid to ask, I been playin' with cars for over 40 yrs, and I'll be the first to admit that I don't know it all, nobody does. That's why we put our heads together and help each other out, and that's what CF is all about. Like minded people sharing a common intrest, Vettes!

My '87 gets the best gas milage of anything I have. 26-29 in town / 30-32 hwy. I love it.
Those #'s are extreme. What do you have working up front?

It's a '87 L98 with an auto/od. at 45mph the rpm's fluctuate between 12 and 1300 at 55 they are at @14 and at 75 they are at 17< 18. for a while I had change the t-stat to a 160 and that made the car run cooler but robed the mileage. I replaced the original and it runs at 195/97 and the mileage came back. never did notice any better performance with the cooler t-stat. It actually accelerates better with the original. I'm not sure what the gears are but it shifts into OD at @43/44mph and stays there as long as I don't jump on it. It gets it's best gas mileage at 79mph on flat straight road it's 33/34mpg at 17<1800rpm with the cruse set. it will fluctuate only 1mph.

Not sure how far you have looked in too it as far as changing it is going too be more involed than that you have a computer that runs the engine and the trans lockup convertor 3rd and4th gear sol. and now you will have none of that.plus some otherthings that you will not have wiring for so get everthing at one place if you can . I have converted a 93 chevy years ago you will need the rite computer and engine wire harness as well as the rite tranny hareness not sure on the center console it may be the same but for a few parts or a different one all together. I will tell you that I love having a 6spd over the auto but there is a lot you can do too the auto a higher stall converter shift kit a manual valve body as far as sound goes youcan go to mid America motor works or eckler's or gloogle it. for exhaust there is a lot out there. happy hunting

Are you sure I was thinking the manual valve body would shift when you shifted them up or down.

You must have some really tall gears in that tail my 94 is at 1650 at 70 mph and it has 50 or 55 percent overdrive in it ie 6spd.

most computers like 180 deg or more. Below that like 160' you may be going in and out of closed loop where the computer cannot adjust fuel and timing. and really why go that cool it takes longer too get oil hot. And you want it at 212 or a little better for a street car.

with the 160 t-stat it would run about 185/87, but from what I understand these engines "like it hot". now I'm curious about the rearend gears. i just thought the mileage was normal. When I got it I drove it from Albany NY to Dickson TN. 1158 mls, and used @35-36 gal's of gas. I was lovein' it. Crusin with the top off at 75-80 mph. just hummin along.
