Question Buddymgd

I have a 93 with rear suspension problems, the rear wheels especially the right moves under acceleration. Removed wheel, rotor and caliper, and could move the hub assy. and housing with a large cresent wrench on wheel flang. the whole unit could be moved up pivoting inward as drive axle moved into differential, also could be move foward with the same movement inward on the drive axle. Is it normal for the axles to move in and out of the differential or is this the problem, and the diff is wore out?
