92 LT1 convertible.

I haven't been here in so long that I have to make a new account cuz I forgot my old one! The 'vette's been parked for a while and I've been playin' with my two-wheeled toy instead.

Now that the weather's getting a little ugly, I need to get my vette on the road again, but she's developed a clutch fluid leak. Fluid slowly leaks even when she's sitting undriven / unstarted. The slave cylinder is externally dry so I suspect either the master cylinder or the line from the master to the slave. It's tough to tell exactly where this slow leak originates because I've spilled fluid atop the master cylinder while refilling it. Any thoughts on the likelihood of this being a fluid line vs the master cylinder? Also, should the plastic fluid cup atop the master cylinder move easily when you press it aside? hello they sell dye.. you put it in the master cylinder pump the breaks and then with a black light it will show you were yur leek is coming from..i think eastwood companey sells the kit.

 

The loose cup does not look right. I'm guessing master cylinder (rebuild kit does not include cup), so your going to need a different one. I'd look at the slave too if it has not been rebuilt in the last 4-5 years. Rebuild kit is available from checkers auto online for $17. I'm pulling out my slave cylindertoday...no leak, just does not fully disengage the clutch.I'm going to try to re-grease the inner rubberseal. (part # 22267 is the slave rebuild kit)

 

The plastic cup will move because it is held in by a rubber seal in the master cylinder. If you can see fluid on the ground and the slave is dry, I would suspect it is the line leaking. Be sure and check the slave rod, pull the rubber boot off and look inside to make sure it isn't wet. [8D]

 

I checked my cup on the 1986 4+3 clutch master cylinder, and it does not move.....there is a 15mm bolt inside the cup under a plastic strainer that can beloosen....(to make the cup move from side to side). Looks like it is different set-up on an 1992.

Which clutch master cylinder works better, or lasts longer would be my next question?
